OFS is a company whose history is steeped in the rich furniture-making tradition and strong German heritage of southern Indiana. This art of old world craftsmanship is one we’ve mastered and still adhere to today. We’ve been crafting fine wood furniture for over 60 years. In the early 1980’s we turned our efforts solely to crafting fine office furniture.

OFS Today

Today we employ over 1200 associates. Our operations include 7 manufacturing plants, each specializing in its own range of product to insure quality, and 4 support plants which supply raw material to the manufacturing facilities. Together these facilities total 2.1 million square feet.

OFS and the Environment

OFS's commitment to the environment dates back to early 1960, years before most people were aware of the need to protect natural resources. We are proud of our leadership in environmental matters:

OFS has restored thosands of acres of worn-out agricultural land.
We grow more wood than we use.
OFS was the original corporate supporter of Indiana Nature Conservancy and the Forestry and Woodland Owners Association.
For 25 years, OFS has been involved in historic renovations in southern Indiana, particularly in our hometown, Huntingburg, and New Harmony.
Our recycling programs are second to none. OFS has recycled cartons, metal and glass for many years. Our energy plant/recycling facility burns 39,000 to 57,000 pounds of wood waste daily from our own operations and others in the area while releasing virtually no ash into the air. The recycling of wood waste produces the steam energy that fuels our drying ovens and heats our manufacturing facilities.
Our supplier of cartons and packaging materials uses a line of corrugated boxes which contain at least 35% Post Consumer Waste (PCW). Each ton of recycled corrugated saves 2.6 cubic yards of space in landfills. OFS is also using a line of packing foam that is 100% biodegradable.
OFS is taking innovative steps in reducing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emission. By reformulating the lacquer finish, OFS is able to eliminate one coat of lacquer. In addition, by utilizing downdraft booths, OFS is able to reduce emissions by 50%. In the year 2000, OFS was awarded the "Friends of the Institute Award" by the Indiana Clean Manufacturing Technology Institute, and was also presented with the Governor's Award.
